As summer comes to a close and kids head back to school now would be a perfect time to recap the Moms Clean Air Force #SchoolsOutFoodDrive from this past June and what a wild success it was! The idea behind the food drive was that because of climate change the stress of finding healthy, quality produce is increasing, especially for families already struggling to provide for their children. Many children, around 88,000 in our region alone, receive free or reduced price lunches and when school lets out, they may not get that meal from home during the summer. This national campaign by Moms Clean Air Force made it easy for citizens to give back to their local communities by partnering with local businesses to help gather donations. The campaign had an overwhelming amount of success and support, gathering over 270 pounds of food locally in the hampton roads area and over 4500 pounds nation wide. We appreciate our local and national participants for stepping up and ensuring the children of their communities have access to healthy organic foods in the face of climate change induced food security!During the donation collection event at Bayville Park in Virginia Beach, we came together to celebrate the end of the food drive with our partners and community members. The The Virginian Pilot take was even there to capture this moment, check out their take on our success story by clicking here!
