Norfolk Sea Level Rise Tour
June 26 and 27, 2013
Skip Stiles, Director of Wetlands Watch, took the Cheapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) staff on a very thorough and informative land tour of the many locations throughout Norfolk that are impacted by sea-level rise! Among these locations were the Ghent, Larchmont, and Lafayette neighborhoods. Skip pointed out that after four days of no rain many areas still have standing water due to the daily high tide. We viewed homes that have been lifted up several feet due to being flooded over and over again.
Captain Joe Bouchard was happy to take the CCAN staff on a boat tour on the Victory Rover. We were able to view many locations that have been impacted by sea level rise at the Naval Station Norfolk.
What are we going to do about sea level rise in Hampton Roads? We must take action by contacting our legislators now. We must say no to offshore oil drilling and yes to clean energy!
